HUBBALLI: At present, 1,247 TB patients are being treated in the district, while the cure rate is above 85%,” said District TB Control Officer Tanuja K N.
The officer was speaking after inaugurating a 11-day TB screening and awareness initiative at the Chitaguppi Hospital premises in Hubballi on Wednesday.
This drive would be conducted in high-risk areas like slums, industrial areas, and areas that recorded previous TB cases or deaths. Health workers would visit each household to create awareness by distributing pamphlets, and would collect sputum samples, if TB symptoms are found.
If TB cases are found, private hospitals, medical stores, and even medicine distributors have to report to the government, and violation of this rule would attract severe punishment. The ‘Nikshaya’ portal has also been also opened for collecting information.
District Health Officer R M Doddamani, Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagara Palike (HDMP) Public Health, Education & Social Justice Standing Committee Chairman Shivanand Muttannavar, HDMP health officer P N Biradar, WHO consultant Spoorthy, Dr Subhash Babruwad, and others were present.
