DHARWAD: The CBI court in Dharwad on Saturday convicted eight persons for cheating an insurance company of Rs 68.74 lakh insurance amount.
The convicts include bank manager, police inspector, two advocates, doctor and three others. The court has ordered jail imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.80 lakh on each convict. The convicts had created fake insurance documents to claim compensation from New India Assurance Company.
According to a report, a case was filed at the CBI court against advocates H N Shetty of Hukkeri in Belagavi district and S D Badakundari , Dr Rajkumar Koppa of Shanta Nursing Home, Hubballi who had given fake medical certificate, Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank branch manager S D Deshpande and police inspector S M Tahsildar. The court has awarded one-year jail term to Balappa Pujear, Lakkappa Pujear and Mudukappa Pujear for helping the convicts.
During the hearing, it was observed that inspection was not conducted at the accident spot and the documents produced to claim compensation were fake.
Pronouncing its judgement, the court ordered three-year rigorous imprisonment to all the four convicts along with penalty.
