HUBBALLI: Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated in most parts of India on Monday, May 25. Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the Gulf nations and most parts of the world on Sunday, May 24.
The Muslim festival, which culminates the fasting month of Ramzan, is usually celebrated in India a day later than the rest of the world.
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia, Australia and many other countries announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday as the crescent (new moon) was not sighted on Friday, May 22.
In most parts of Karnataka (barring Mangaluru, Udupi, Bhatkal, etc), Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on Monday. While that’s still two days away, the people of Hubballi-Dharwad may not be able to do the last-minute shopping on Sunday.
Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Deepa Cholan has ordered a curfew from 7 pm, Saturday, to 7 am, Monday, as part of the Karnataka government’s new guidelines on Covid-19. What this means is that people will have to stay indoors on Sunday. So all businesses will be shut a day before Eid.
