HUBBALLI: A delegation of Muslim leaders led by Congress leader AM Hindesgeri today visited Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Deepa Cholan and urged to take a sympathetic view of the stone-pelting case of Mantur Road that occurred on Friday afternoon.
The delegation comprising Ashraf Ali, Pitambarappa Bilar, Anwar Mudhol, HF Jakappanavar, Ayub Savanur, Advocate Belagli, and others also visited Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner R. Dileep and urged to take leniency in this entire issue for the sake of the success of lockdown.
It can be recalled here that police had alleged that stones were hurled at them for stopping people to offer prayers at Masjid e Hazrat Bilal. While locals alleged that a few trainee policemen entered the mosque with shoes on and even beat up muezzin who was alone in the mosque. More than a dozen people, including women, have been arrested in connection with this incident.
The delegation later visited the Aralikatti Oni, off Mantur Road and pacified the families of those whose bread winners have been arrested in connection with this incident. They then distributed groceries among the needy families there.
Activists and leaders Babajan Mudhol, Mohan Hiremani, Shakir Sanadi, Asif Pachapur, and others were also present with the delegation.
