RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST LIQUOR OUTLET

DHARWAD: Demanding closure of a newly opened liquor outlet, residents of Hebballi Agasi staged a protest on outskirts of Dharwad City on Thursday.

The residents, both men and women, staged a massive protest, opposing the move of the Excise Department for granting permission to set up Nagaraj Wines in their locality. They staged a rasta roko by blocking the Navalgund road, and raised slogans against the officials.

However, the silent protest turned violent when a few miscreants pelted stones on the shop. Subsequently, the police and Excise officials took 40 persons into custody for pelting stones on the liquor outlet, and they were released late evening.
