HUBBALLI: Setting up an example for other members of the community, a Muslim group, including women activists, chose to spend its earnings on extending a helping hand to the destitute rather than spending on DJ systems to mark the Meeladunnabi.
A section of the local unit of Jamat-e-Islami Hind, visited a destitute rehabilitation center at Rayapura on Wednesday morning and ddistributed nearly 200 kits of steel crockery and fruits.
Sadiq Shaikh, the secretary of the Khidmat-e-Khalq wing of the Jamat, said that 110 men and around 60 women are staying in the rehabilitation center and most of them are mentally ill and lunatic. “The jamat cadre, especially women, fed a few of the destitute who were unable to eat by their own.”
Meanwhile, Shivananda, in charge of the rehabilitation center, expressed gratitude over the jamat’s visit and asked its members to keep on visiting the center.
Jamat’s secretaries Sajida Lalmiya, Arifa Makandar, members Syed Rasheed, Ilyas Goudi, Rasheed Bukhari, Rasheed Nadaf, Ilyas Kusugal, Manzoor Pathan, Dr. Jameel and others were present.
